When we were in high school, JC and I used to walk his paper route together and then go up into the little wood at the top of his neighborhood. Once, we stumbled across a big bunch of daisies. I showed him how to make a daisy crown. I asked him to take it off before we went back to his house, but he refused.
When we walked in, his older sister took one look at him and said, “Oh, are we Queen of the May?”
This is what I think of every time I make daisy crowns, now. I literally can hear her voice in my head, laden with sarcasm, and feel the little twinge of embarrassment that went with it.
That does not stop me from making daisy crowns, though.
In my defense, I’m the older sister and my little brother was dating (and happily for us all married) my best friend. My GUT reaction was “AWWWW! You two are just too CUTE together I could SQUEE!!!” but that probably would have embarassed him even worse than a snarky comment. 😉 Didn’t mean to scar you for life…I thought it was adorable that he didn’t want to take off the daisy crown you made…is I remember correctly it hung in his room till it disintegrated. 😉
