Probably one of the most fun parts of parenting right now is watching my kids grow into their relationship as siblings. Petra adores Silas and wants to do everything he does. She surprises me by trying things that Silas has just barely mastered, like putting her own clothes on. She gets constantly frustrated when she can’t do exactly what he can do, but she keeps trying.
For his part, he says he doesn’t want to play with her, but any time she’s napping, he bugs me about when she’s going to wake up–he even tries to sneak upstairs to wake her so that she’ll play with him. She gets bored when he spends a weekend with the grandparents. JC and I are just not as much fun as big brother.
One thing that cracks me up is seeing them start to needle each other a bit. JC has started a new job (more on that later), and the kids are having a hard time with him being out of the house so much. Silas deals with this by not mentioning JC at all. Petra figured out that it makes him freak out when she says “Daddy! Daddy! Daddy! Daddy! Daddy! Daddy! Daddy! Daddy!” over and over again. She’s found his button and she’s not afraid to push it.
I love that they are becoming friends. I think they like that, too.

So wonderful…one of the most important relationships in a life. No one else will ever have the same connection.
