Lisbon — Anime Ramen

I’m sure this is a thing in other cities, but I have never seen ramen restaurants like they have in Lisbon. A couple of chains compete to have the most over-the-top anime theming.

They are wallpapered with stills from Japanese animation, and lit neon, somehow complimenting, rather than clashing with, the paper lanterns that hang from the ceilings.

My favorite was the ghost ramen bowl at Kapitan Ramen:

We had to eat in one, of course. The food was good, but the vibes were better.

We saw a bunch of people who were clearly on their way to an anime convention one afternoon, which we were not expecting. All the shinnichi in Lisbon shouldn’t have been a surprise, I guess. Who doesn’t like noodles and cute lil mascots? But I somehow forgot that people outside of the US might have as many weebs* as we do.

*not trying to be offensive; Silas tells me that “weeb” is no longer an insult, as it has been fully reclaimed by, and I am quoting here, “The weeb community.”
